SERVPRO of Hyde Park / Central Austin works with a lot of homes that are pier and beam construction. Often on a pier and beam constructed home there will be a tar paper vapor barrier installed over the floor joists and then the floor planking installed over top of it. This home had oak planks over the tarp paper. There was a water loss and the floor was damaged. Drying out flooring over a vapor barrier can be very challenging. If the water damage has sat for too long there is potential for microbial growth between the tar paper and the wood flooring and the removal of the flooring may be recommended.
