Severe Storm Tips - The Curfew

Stop - There is a Curfew

One of the things I am commonly asked by friends and family is why a curfew is placed in areas during a storm event.  First, one must understand that the emergency responders are affected by the storm as well.  Quite often police officers and firemen have their own homes drastically affected by storms.  Second, power and communication are incapacitated so even if emergency responders were at full staff, communication is limited.

The “invisible dangers” are what is most concerning.  The things you can see at night and don't expect.   Traffic signals not working due to downed power lines.  The power lines themselves on the ground can be a hazard.  The road may not be safe due to sink holes or collapsed bridges.

It is amazing how dark and different a city is at night when there is not power and everything is dark.  Suddenly familiar areas become confusing.  It is very easy to get yourself into trouble quickly.

SERVPRO of Hyde Park / Central Austin highly recommends you follow the laws during a storm event and stay safe.
